Drones and ISIS Combat

Although the United States, Russia, as well as other countries, want to use modern aircraft more often, Ukraine lacks the resources necessary to train its troops on these aircraft. Although the Ukrainians have received training in Western countries such as Germany on vehicles and aircraft, they cannot receive the same training in Ukraine on drones. Because Ukrainians have grown up using older equipment, such as trucks, drones are easier for them. Drones are also easy to use for soldiers because they don't need "pilots". Drones are also easy to use, similar to those in video games.

Aerorozvidka

Ukrainian military employs a unique method to fight ISIS in eastern Ukraine. They use octocopters that are equipped with thermal cameras for nighttime operations. Some drones can even light up columns and are equipped with anti-tank weapons. These drones are highly maneuverable, and can carry as much 11 lbs payload. Small size allows drones to fly low over targets, dropping munitions.

Aerorozvidka began life as an IT enthusiast team. Now, Aerorozvidka operates as a military aircraft reconnaissance unit. The organization's first mission was as a civilian drone company, but over time, it evolved into a full-fledged unit with its own head. Because of export control, the Ukrainian government prevented Russian military planes from entering the country. Aerorozvidka relies upon crowdfunding and donations to maintain its existence since many of its components are manufactured in the US.

Switchblade

The U.S. military is supplying Ukraine with armed "Switchblade" drones, which are able to strike Russian tanks from miles away. The US Air Force developed these unmanned aerial vehicles in response to Ukrainian needs. John Kirby (Pentagon spokesperson) stated that more then 121 of these machines have been dispatched to Ukraine. There is not yet any information about how the Switchblades are used in the conflict with Ukraine.

The Switchblade is a small drone with a 40-kilometer range. It can be launched from a tube. The Switchblade is able to hit a Russian convoy 6 miles away, which is unlike Bayraktar drones. These small aircraft are easy to set up during conflicts like the Ukraine. The Switchblade has a much higher speed than the Bayraktar, the current U.S. allies.

Russian kamikaze drones

Recently, the US announced that it would provide $800 million in military assistance to Ukraine. One of those packages includes the delivery of 121 unmanned planes, known as "Phoenix Ghosts," that are designed to terrorize Russian troops. These aircraft are designed for flying over areas for up to thirty to forty minutes and come equipped with warheads, cameras, and other equipment. One such drone is the Switchblade, a 5.5-pound hovering munition that can take out armored vehicles and tanks.

These small, light aircrafts come equipped with a powerful, low flight gimbal which allows them to operate from either air, ground, or water. In an aerial conflict like this, every advantage an opponent holds over the other side is important. Russian kamikaze-equipped drones are a direct threat. This capability will likely be key to Ukraine's military, as it can easily break Russian sieges and attack command-and-control nodes. Although such capabilities could be a liability for both sides it could make a significant difference in the battlefield and help Ukraine emerge victorious.

U.S. loitering Drones

Russia began integrating ZALA KYB lotering munitions into its military arsenal. These drones are able to use lethal loitering munitions in the manner of bazookas. The use of loitering drones may lead to the proliferation of these autonomous killing machines in black markets. However, observers and pundits worry about this. So what can the U.S. Do to prevent this?

Its purpose is to destroy the opposition forces in Ukraine.
